Alok Clinic, located in Panvel, Navi Mumbai, is one of Maharashtra’s most respected and advanced dermatology centres. With a legacy spanning over three decades, it has evolved from a modest skin clinic into a comprehensive hub for clinical and procedural dermatology, dermatologic surgery, aesthetic care, trichology, and academic training.

 

The journey of Alok Clinic began with Dr. Dipak Kulkarni, who commenced his dermatology practice in 1989, guided by his postgraduate mentor and renowned dermatologist Dr. Mohan Gharpuray. In 1992, Dr. Kulkarni established his first clinic at Yashodeep Apartments, Old Panvel. As patient trust grew, the need for a larger and more structured facility led to the establishment of Alok Clinic at Shah Plaza in 1999. Both clinics were inaugurated by Dr. Gharpuray, symbolising continuity, mentorship, and clinical values that remain at the core of Alok Clinic even today.

 

To accommodate this expanded scope and meet the growing expectations of patients, a state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated in June 2016 in New Panvel. This three-story center is thoughtfully designed to offer comprehensive dermatological and cosmetic care under one roof.
Dr. Kulkarni’s vision went beyond conventional practice. He was among the first in India to introduce the group practice model in dermatology, offering independent consultants the autonomy to manage their patients while adhering to standardised clinic protocols. This structured system ensured uniform quality of care and built a strong culture of collaboration and clinical accountability.

 

Alongside private practice, Dr. Kulkarni worked extensively in the field of leprosy, contributing to organisations such as Shantiwan and Kushtarog Niwaran Samiti. His work focused not only on clinical management but also on restoring dignity and quality of life for patients affected by stigmatized skin conditions.
Recognising the need for organised patient care, Dr. Kulkarni played a key role in the development of a customised dermatology patient management software, which is currently used by over 200 dermatologists across India. This system has contributed significantly to streamlined clinic workflows, effective follow-ups, and better clinical documentation.

 

Over the years, Alok Clinic has consistently stayed at the forefront of dermatological innovation, upgrading its infrastructure with the latest procedural technologies. It was the first clinic in India to acquire the RedTouch Pro laser, and is among the very few in the country to house the Deka Duoglide platform, which includes both CO2 and Erbium Glass lasers. The clinic remains fully equipped with advanced tools for laser treatments, aesthetic procedures, hair restoration surgeries, and dermatologic surgeries.

 

Currently, Alok Clinic manages a daily OPD of over 250 patients, with a cumulative patient database of more than 3 lakh patients. It is now among the largest dedicated dermatology centres in Maharashtra.

 

The second generation has further strengthened the clinic’s expertise. Dr. Ojas Kulkarni and his wife, Dr. Ruta Joshi Kulkarni, who are trained Dermatosurgeons and Hair Transplant Surgeons, have brought new energy and precision to the clinic’s procedural and surgical arm. Their active contribution has elevated the clinic’s standards in aesthetic dermatology, trichology, and advanced dermatosurgical techniques.

 

In addition to patient care, Alok Clinic has emerged as a centre for academic excellence:

• Over 70 dermatologists have been trained here in varying capacities.

• The clinic offers institutional observerships in “Interventional Dermatology’ and a ‘Fellowship in Dermatosurgery’.

• It is affiliated with IADVL and ACSI for observership programmes.

• Frequent hands-on workshops in procedural dermatology are conducted for residents and practising dermatologists across India.

• Dr. Dipak Kulkarni is also one of the founding members of NMRDA (Navi Mumbai and Raigad Dermatologist’s Association), along with Dr. Satish Udare, Dr. Kiran Godse, and Dr. Kiran Nabar—leaders who have significantly contributed to the growth of dermatology in the region.
